Il carattere è stato realizzato nel 2003, in occasione della tesi di Laurea di Francesco Mantovani presso l’ISIA di Urbino.
Il disegno è ispirato al corsivo denominato Petrarca, realizzato da Francesco Griffo nel 1503, e vuole celebrare contemporaneamente i 500 anni del carattere e la figura storica di Lucrezia Borgia, divenuta duchessa di Ferrara nello stesso anno.
La curiosità verso il corsivo di Griffo è nata in seguito alla visione di una sua riproduzione nel libro Gli elementi dello stile tipografico di Robert Bringhurst. Il carattere digitalizzato riprende l’associazione di maiuscole tonde e minuscole corsive, come previsto dalla tipografia dell’epoca, influenzata ancora dalla scrittura amanuense.
